The first thing we searched was "Dowagiac homes for sale." That search became the name of this site.
I grew up here. My family's house in Sister Lakes has been part of my life since the day I was born. School was just across the state line, but almost every day after school, every weekend and every summer, I was at the lake. I worked jobs here and taught local kids action sports, and a lot of those families are still friends.
After I moved out of state and met my wife, we started asking the obvious questions. What changed? What didn't? What would it take to come back?
No one site had the answers. Which lake fits which kind of life. Who to call when a seawall shifts. Where to eat on a Tuesday in February. So I started keeping notes, and the notes became this site.
This site isn't about me. It's what I've learned from friends, family and local businesses over a lifetime up here, written down so you don't have to start from zero.
At first the notes were just for us. Then people started reaching out: locals, former residents and buyers doing their own homework.
Today the site has more than 60 local guides and a business directory with more than 200 listings. Many of the posts were written together with local businesses that know their trade, and readers have left reviews on our Facebook page.
2026 update: We've put our own house hunt on pause, so new posts are slow for now. Everything stays up, and we'll start posting again when we start looking again.
